Excel Error: To prevent possible loss of data, Microsoft Excel cannot shift nonblank cells off the worksheet

Cause

• Excel 2003 has a column limitation of 256
• Excel 2007 has no limitation to the number of columns

Solutions 
 To solve this problem follow the step below:

1. Click Office Button
2. Click Excel Options
3. Click Advanced
4. Look for Display options for this workbook:
5. under For objects, show: must be marked as all
6. then press ok and close excel file then open it again.
7. You can now insert column.

Excel cannot shift non blank cells off of the worksheet Solution

Cause

Excel 2007 format workbooks (.xlsx, .xlsm, .xlsb) have 16,384 columns
Excel 97-2003 format workbooks (.xls) have only 256 columns (IV is the last)

Solution

If the file extension is .xls  (version Excel 97-2003) save the file to .xlsx (version 2007).
Then you can now insert column.
